So what is the big deal with sprouting? I am so glad you asked. First, let us examine what a sprout is to answer this question. A sprout is a baby plant or seedling in its tender fresh state. The plant is packed with the nutritional and growth ability to become an adult version of its kind.
The nutrients in these babies are amazingly potent as well as flavorful. Eating them in salad provides depth of flavor especially since most salad greens are mild tasting. I love them enough to grow them at home. All you need is a large mason jar, cheese cloth, a rubber-band, and a good memory.
First, soak the seeds overnight. Then drain the water off through the cheesecloth which should be secured with a rubber-band. Rinse and drain every day until the sprouts are the desired amount. Finally, refrigerate them and use as needed for salads or in smoothies.
It’s simple really, and you will enjoy the flavors immensely.
