Can We Stand!

Can We Stand!

When I decided to have children, I had no idea that I was signing up to fight battles I never started. For example, the vaccine debate jumped into my lap when I refused to allow a nurse to give my newborn son his shots. The nurse tried to bully me into it. I did not relent. I wanted to vaccinate my children on a delayed schedule. I had to fight for my right to delay vaccines for my kids. I was a stay home mom. My children seldom went out in the early days, so I felt it best to wait.

I also had to defend my right to bed sharing. I was not going to leave my newborn alone in a bed across the hall from me. I trusted my maternal instincts. I understood that medicated moms, or fathers could roll over on their young, but I was neither.

Growing older gave me a lot of confidence. I realized that natural or ancestral ways were frowned upon in our modern culture. I preferred  sticking to my guns on the whole child rearing debate. I trusted my instincts. After all, the old ways were what we used before the modern ways. Where our ancestors wrong? They did just fine for thousands of years. Now, every thing organic is frowned upon.

I did not roll over on my kids. They did not contract a horrible disease. My kids are not lacking calcium, protein, or iron. Oh yes, my children are vegan too. I decided a long time ago that I would not support an industry that provides its consumers with GMO meat, overly vaccinated and inhumanely treated livestock. Nope, not in my house.

My children are thriving and happy. We have a bond like no other. I am proud of my choices. My oldest is 19 and my youngest is 3. I have no regrets.

I stand up for what I believe in this world. I teach my children to do the same. Standing up for what we believe is our God given right in this world. It is one of the freedoms I cherish as a United States citizen, and a free-willed resident of planet earth.
